97 Offering a Method for Assessment of Organizational Tacit Knowledge Case study Mobarakeh Steel Company Fatemeh Hoseini Monjezi f hoseinimonjezi@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2011 04 26 Department of Industrial Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr Behrouz Arbab Shirani ashirani@cc iut ac irAbstractNot so long ago the strength and power of an organization or a human community was its ability to accessmore material resources Leading organization was who more access raw material under ground stock primary material cheap human resources land and like these as production factors in classic economy Inthese current Competitive environment situation completely has changed The main Competitive advantagefor organizations is their power to managing knowledge the main capital of any product and serviceproviding organizations is the knowledge they access Leading organizations who lead world markets areorganizations that can get the most valid and update human knowledge in their business field and using thisknowledge The major part of knowledge is tacit knowledge Tacit knowledge is the main factor inorganizations growth and their economical competitiveness and also there is positive relation between tacitknowledge and the organization s efficiency and innovation Therefore because of the important role of tacitknowledge in Success of organizations continuous tacit knowledge assessment for determining level oforganization s tacit knowledge and defining strategies for boosting this kind of knowledge is very important Also because organization s staffs retire over time or for other reasons go out from organization and theytake the tacit knowledge which is in their mind whit themeself and another persones employe instead ofthem So this problem cause to change the level of organization tacit knowledge and makes necessary doingContinuous tacit knowledge assessment The purpose of this research is to offer a method for assessment oforganizational tacit knowledge in order to determine how much every effective factor is in relation withorganizational tacit knowledge field In addition this method can help finding strength and weak points oforganizations in tacit knowledge For this purpose first by study available models and methods of assessmentof organizational tacit knowledge and using definition of organizational tacit knowledge effective factors onorganizational tacit knowledge were determined Three factors were determined as effective factors onorganizational tacit knowledge organizational culture knowledge transfer channel and individual tacitknowledge Then effective variable on each factor were determine according to literature of this subject AndThen using Structual Equation Modeling Statistical analysis created a method for assessment oforganizational tacit knowledge this method and its accreditation were studied This method was applied incold rolling area in Mobarakeh Steel Company in Isahan Obtained results of this method was evaluate andresults shows that offered method of accreditation is so appropriate and the effect of each factor and variableon organizational tacit knowledge is determined which helps managers use different strategies for boostingtacit knowledge level of their organizations In this case study cold rolling area in Mobarakeh SteelCompany was determined that organizational culture factor has maximum positive effect on organizationaltacit knowledge And individual tacit knowledge has minimum positive effect on organizational tacitknowledge So managers of this organizations must define strategies for boosting individual tacit knowledgeand knowledge transfer chanel Key words organizational tacit knowledge knowledge assessment Structual Equation Modeling
