Investigation on the Possibility of Application of Some Mineral Nano micro Powders to Produce PCMs at a Certain Temperature Mostafa Khosrojerdi Mostafa 389389@yahoo com Date of Submission February 28 2012 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSeyed majid Mortazavi mortaza@cc iut ac irAbstract Phase change compositions are materials having thermal storage capacity applied forcontrolling temperature and they are used as thermal insulator for heat storage and releases Forthis purpose in textile industries paraffin waxes are used In this study the paraffin and N nonadecane serve as phase change material for thermal energystorage nano micro expanded dolomite and expanded perlite was used as supporting agent Thismethod was applied expressed for textile thermal protection for the irst time It should be notedthat the inherent structure of the expanded absorbers did not change in the composite material Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FT IR and scanning electron microscopy SEM wereused to determine the chemical structure and microstructure of the composite phase changematerials respectively FT IR analysis indicated that there was no chemical interaction betweenmaterials in composite The SEM results showed that the phase change materials was wellabsorbed in the porous network of the expanded materials and there was no leakage of the phasechange materials from the fabrics even when it was in the molten state The heat transfermeasurement and DSC test were used to determine the thermal properties of composite fabricswhich showed that the thermal properties of the fabric has a significant impact on these operations The DSC results indicated that latent heat increased with phase change material content incomposite of phase change materials Moisture transfer property has substantial effects on textilescomfortable attributes The moisture transfer properties were measured and the results showed thatby adding composite to textile surface moisture and temperature transfer will be reduced due tohigh thickness and filling fabric pores by composite By investigation of moisture and temperatureproperties dynamically following results were obtained The presence of composite on fabric surface has increased fabric thickness but moisture transferwas reduced The temperature in two side above underneath of the was different This differencedemonstrate that it may be because of presence the phase change materials which have low thermalconductivity and on the other hand dolomite and perlite have thermal insulation properties As a result prepared samples can be applied in textiles thermal protection which can be served asan appropriate and suitable insulator This method can be introduced as an easy and cheap way ofinsulating textile fabrics Keywords The phase change material thermal energy storage booster absorbers composite
