Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Nanostructure Aromatic Optically Active Poly ester amide s Derived from N N Bis 2 Methyl 3 4 Hydroxyphenyl Propanoate Terephthaldiamide Based Tyrosine and Aromatic Diacid Chlorides Ramtin Nazari Esmaeli h d D W D Abstract High performance polymers HPPs such as poly ester amid s PEA s show special stability at someenvironmental damage and have properties that surpass of customary polymers Because of the bettercharacteristics and influence of HPPs the demand for these polymers is growing gradually Polyamides PAs is one of the main good recognized families of HPPs with high thermal stability little combustibility chemicalresistance incredible mechanical properties such as impact strength tear strength and abrasion resistance byreason of formation of hydrogen bonding that increases the chain interaction and also wholly aromatic PAs have outstanding stability and heat resistance Material based on amino acids due to owing natural resourcesexpected to be eco friendly Consequently polymers containing amino acid are suitable for nomination ofbiodegradable polymers so recently some researches focused on synthesis of polymers based on amino acidbecause of thier eco friendly and biodegradability properties These kinds of product potentially have a chiralgroup so these polymers are optically active with exceptional properties and demonstrate various applicationsin different field Production of optically active polymers similar to their natural polymer homologs has abiological importance They could illustrate unique chemical behavior for example catalytic properties that existin natural organisms such as enzymes and genes In this study N N Bis 2 methyl 3 4 hydroxyphenyl propanoate terephthaldiamide as a new monomerbased on amino acid containing chiral group was synthesized from the reaction of S tyrosine methyl ester andterephthaloyl dichloride A sequence of novel nanostructure aromatic optically active and eco friendlypoly ester amide s PEA s based on tyrosine amino acid were synthesized by the solution polycondensation ofthis new diol and a number of aromatic diacid chlorides One equimolar of synthesized diol monomer and oneequimolar of different diacid chlorides were reacted at room temperature for 12 h and the resultanted mixtureswere precipitated in methanol to obtain precipitate of nanostructure polymers The resulting PEAs exhibitedhigh thermal stability good yields and inherent viscosities ranging between 0 13 and 0 21 dL g Almostpolymers showed good solubility and were soluble in polar solvents like NMP DMAc DMF and DMSO atroom temperature The comparatively good solubility related to the amorphous structure and presence ofaliphatic side chain and chiral center in backbone of polymers which hampered the packing of chains andreduce interchain contact But in PEA7a we need to give a few heat for increase of solubility rate owing to itslinear and symmetrical structure and a few crystalline regularity All polymers were characterized by FT IR 1 H NMR elemental analysis specific rotation 13C NMR and characteristic by X ray diffraction XRD thermogravimetric analysis TGA techniques and field emission scanning electron microscopy FE SEM analysis that it can show polymers have nano structure with good dispersity Based on the XRD data PEA7b istotally amorphous which dose not demonstrate any sharp diffraction peaks While the PEA7a is not quiteamorphousand and show quantitative sharp diffraction peaks and afew crystalline regularity due to symmetricalstructure of this polymer So illustrate solubility less than PEA7b Then compared results of solubility and X raydiffraction XRD with same study of PEA s based on N N Bis 2 methyl 3 4 hydroxyphenyl propanoate isophthaldiamide Keyword Optically active polymers Nanostructure polymers Tyrosine amino acid Poly ester amide Biodegradability
