Study of Graphene Carbon Nano structure Zigzag and Armchair Graphene Nano ribbons Under the Quasiperiodic potential with Harper model Mohsen Mirvalipuor m mirvalipuor@ph iut ac ir Date of Submission March 7 2012 04 11 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 271637 7578257 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiFarhad Shahbazi Shahbazi@cc iut ac irAbstractThe structures are so variety that there are in nature Some of the structures are regularand some else show interesting characteristics a special regular and completelydifferent regular that is due to the existence irrational numbers Some of the structuresthat had been studied are called incommensurate systems There are different modelswhich that investigate effect of existence of incommensurate potentials in differentstructures Since the tight bounding model is a suitable model for investigation ofelectronic properties of materials The Harper model is at form tight bounding modelthat we can use it for solve problem of systems with Quasiperiodic potential A oneway to investigate the incommensurate systems or incommensurate of vibration modeof potential the lattice with underlying lattice is use the Harper model Therefor wetake the Harper potential for describing the Quasiperiodic potential in honeycomblattice of Graphene and Nano ribbons In this thesis we investigate the transitionlocalization in Graphene Nano ribbons GNRs and two dimensional Graphene underthe Quasiperiodic potential with Harper model In this work one can calculateGeometrical locale density of states and averaging that for comparing those withtogether We do this in here with calculating exact diagonalization method and usedthe LAPACK library function for it The results of this calculation method also supportthe results calculated in one dimension systems in ago years The other our work iscomputing the inverse participation ratio in Fermi Energy to try the show localizationtransition in GNRs The results shows that there is threshold an amplitude for intensityHarper potential in which all states of about Fermi Energy are localized KeywordsGraphene Nano ribbons Harper model Quasiperiodic potential Inverse participation ratio Exact diagonalization method Local Density of State Localization
