Fabrication and characterization of doped lanthanum chromite as interconnect for solid oxide fuel cell applications Akbar Heidarpour a heidarpour@gmail com 16 Sep 2012 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran1st Supervisor Mohammad Hasan Abbasi1 Abbasi32@cc iut ac ir2ed Supervisor Ali Saidi1 a saidi@cc iut ac ir1st Advisor Geyong Mon Choi2AbstractIn this research study synthesis and sintering properties of lanthanum chromite doped withSr Ni and Ca including two main compositions as La1 xSrxCr1 yNiyO3 0 x 0 3 and0 y 0 2 and La1 x ySrxCayCrO3 0 x 0 3 and 0 y 0 3 were investigated Base on thesintering mechanism a simple method was developed to fabricate dense doped LaCrO3interconnect membrane on anode substrate for solid oxide fuel cell SOFC applications byco sintering As conventional lanthanum chromite interconnect is difficult to be co sintered with green anode a simple and cost effective screen printing co sintering processwas employed and dense La1 x ySrxCayCrO3 interconnect membrane was successfullyprepared on the anode support of NiO YSZ In this method a base layer of dopedlanthanum chromite La1 xSrxCrO3 was applied on NiO YSZ substrate and a top layer ofCaCrO4 was then coated and co sintered to melt the top layer By means of this method not only CaCrO4 melts and fills the open pores in the base layer but it also dissolves inbase layer forming La1 x ySrxCayCrO3 as a single layer In addition synthesis andcharacterization of doped lanthanum chromite and CaCrO4 by glycine nitrate method sintering characteristics microstructure and electrical conductivity of interconnect wereinvestigated Keywords Interconnect material Co sintering Lanthanum chromite Electricalproperties 1 Professor Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran 2 Professor Department of Materials Science and Engineering Pohang University of Science andTechnology Pohang Republic of Korea
