Implementing social learning in virtual education by the usage of social media Mozhdeh Ahmadi Nadoushan Mozhdeh ahmadi@ec iut ac ir Electronic Computer Department Isfahan university of technology Isfahan 8415 9311 IranDegree M Sc Language Persian Dr Mohammad Davapanah Jazi md jazi@cc iut ac ir Dr MohammadAli Montazeri montazeri@cc iut ac irAbstractThere are various theories about different learning styles Based on social learning theory and grouplearning could improve learning process At present and with distance learning group communication decreased and as a result the benefits ofsocial learning are decreased Social media is a set of tools for information dissemination andexpanding collaborating activities The main goal of social media is freedom in knowledge information and opinion propagation and converting content customers to content consumers Social media idea refers to 1999 and creating open diary site by some authors For the optimal use ofthese tools suitable technologies were needed and this caused creating Web 2 0 technology at 2005 The base of this technology is user generated content The possibility of content generating motivatespersonal knowledge dissemination and collaborative content creation and results in more groupactivities As a usage of social media universities education could be mentioned At present different learningmanagement system are used for virtual education management at electronic education centers andeducational information management systems are used for presenting educational services Implementing social media in these systems cause extending group activities In this thesis afterclarifying the benefits of implementing social learning in virtual education by the usage of socialmedia approaches for using social media for social learning in virtual education were suggested Opensource LMS that supports some kind of social media tools are reviewed The ATutor LMS issuggested that contains social network and also supports Unicode for managing virtual education Toovercome the weakness of notification by distance Social research and educational bulletin board design is presented This board is a special social news site that causes students staffs and teachersview reaearch and educational that causes encouragement in learning in addition to informationsending through the web site Keywords Social Media Social learning Social Constructivism Social Network Social research andeducational bulletin board Learning Management System LMS User Generated Content UGC
