Generating a Fuzzy Incorporated Technology Strategy Development Model in an Organization Based on SWOT Analysis and Resource based View Approach Case Study Isfahan Optics Industries IOI Mohsen Baghersad m bahghersad@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2012 05 14 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Behrooz Arbabshirani ashirani@cc iut ac irAbstract Nowadays With technological developments and the increasing use of technology also Rapid technologicaldevelopments organizations and corporate success depends on appropriate use of technology Hence management of technology Has become an effective weapon For many organizations Technology Managementis set of management disciplines that allows organizations to manage their technological fundamentals to createcompetitive advantage Typical concepts used in technology management are technology strategy a logic or roleof technology in organization technology forecasting identification of possible relevant technologies for theorganization possibly through technology scouting technology roadmapping mapping technologies to businessand market needs technology project portfolio a set of projects under development and technology portfolio a set of technologies in use The role of the technology management function in an organization is understandthe value of certain technology for the organization Continuous development of technology is valuable as long asthere is a value for the customer and therefore the technology management function in an organization should beable to argue when to invest on technology development and when to withdraw One of the most important fields of management of technology in any organization is technology strategy that aspart of the overall strategy can affect all aspects of the organization There are different views and models in thefield of technology strategy development that each of them has advantages and disadvantages Hierarchical andresource based views in today s business environment seems extremely inappropriate Because dynamicrelationship between technology and strategy that will be ignored In this research an incorporated TechnologyStrategy Development model is presented based on resource based view and dynamic view One of the famous ofstrategy development models is SWOT analysis which simultaneously considers both of internal and externalenvironments One of the most important problem of SWOT analysis is lack of sufficient attention to competitiveadvantages and role of resources and capabilities In this research an incorporated model is presented based onSWOT Analysis and Resource Based View This model has many advantages of SWOT analysis and resource based view simultaneously and the main part of their problems has been eliminated One of the new aspects ofthe model is considering organizational resources beside quadruplet internal and external factors in technologystrategy development Moreover this model established appropriate communication between technicalknowledge and technology as one of the most important source and other resources This research provides apractical context of resource based view for in technology strategy development which can help manyorganizations to develop efficient technology strategies The offered model in this research has implemented inIsfahan Optics Industries IOI that its results show the high efficiency of model in dynamic environment Keywords Technology Strategy Development Dynamic environment SWOT Analysis Resource Based View High Technology
