81 Effects of Water Stress And Magnetic Field on Yield Yield Components and Essential Oil Content of Cuminum cyminum L Accessions Sara Alinian s alinianjoozdani@ag iut ac ir Submitted to Department of Agronomy and Plant Breeding Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi J Razmjoo Prof Supervisor krazmjoo@cc iut ac ir Abstract Water is scare in many parts of the world therefore drought stress is a common abiotic stress limiting crop production Rapid and uniform field emergence is essential to achieve high yield and quality in annual crops This experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Experimental Station of Isfahan University of Technology in 2010 2011 to determine the effects of three irrigation regimes and three magnetic fields on four cumin Cuminum cyminum L accessions A split factorial based on randomized complete block design with three replications was used Main plot consisted of three irrigation regimes 70 mm control treat 150mm medium stress and 200mm severe stress evaporation based on Class A pan and sub plot consisted of four accessions Isfahan Nishapur Khourobiabanak and Yazd of cumin and three magnetic field control 150 mt and 200mt Days to germination flowering and maturity Plant height number of branch per plant number of umble per plant number of umbellet per umble 1000 seed weights dry weight biological and seed yields essential oil and oil contents essential oil and oil yields harvest index were measured Analysis of variance showed that as drought level increased days to maturity number of umble plant and 1000 seed weights chlorophyll a b content carethonoid content biological and seed yields decreased Essential oil percent increased 9 whearas essential oil yield and oil yield decreased 39 and 36 under severe drought stress Isfahan had the highest total chlorophyll content and umble per plant Whearas number of branch per plant essential oil and oil content was higher in Khourobiabanak Nishapur had the highest prolin content 1000 seed weights and harvest index and Yazd produced the highest number of umble per plant biological and seed yield essential oil and oil yield Seeds were germinated 7 days earlier and plants were matured 5 6 day earlier when treated with magnetic field Magnetic field treatment also increased shoot dry weight and seed yield 14 and 6 respectively Leaf prolin content was higher than control in magnetic field seeds There was no significant differences beetwen oil content and harvest index under different irrigation regimes There was no interaction beetwen irrigation regimes and magnetic fields strength However there was interaction between irrigation regime and accession for days to raping chlorophyll content carethonoid prolin seed yield essence yield oil yield and harvest index The results showed that the magnetic field improved establishment growth parameters and yield of plants The results also indicated that this spices could be grown under 150 mm irrigation regime and Yazd was the superior accession in this similar areas keyword cumin magnetic field irrigation regimes yield yield components prolin chlorophyll essence
