Abstract In this study 1 x K0 48Na0 48Li0 04Nb0 96Ta0 04O3 xSrTiO3 0 0 x 0 10 ceramics were prepared by sintering in conventional furnace either via single step or two step procedures as well as in microwave furnace Sintering behavior and piezoelectric properties of sintered samples were studied and compared It was found that two step sintering could decrease sintering temperature effectively and enhances densification compared to single step sintering On the other hand microwave sintering more decreased sintering time and temperature For example for ceramic with x 0 the optimum sintering temperature in conventional furnace via single and two step were 1130 and 1120oC respectively while this compound could be sintered at 1025oC in microwave furnace Microwave sintering not only decreased sintering temperature but also increased the density of ceramics and consequently their piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties The maximum piezoelectric constant of ceramics sintered in microwave furnace was measured 310 pC N while by sintering in conventional furnace via single and two step sintering it was obtained 208 and 278 pC N respectively Keywords Piezoceramics Sintering Microstructure Piezoelectricity Ferroelectric Properties
