Isfahan University of Technology Department of Material Engineering Production of Crofer stainless steel by mechanical alloying for solid oxide fuel cells SOFC interconnects and investigating its properties Hamid Khorrami h khorrami@ma iut ac ir October 8 2012 Department of Materials Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor s Dr Keyvan Raeissi Assoc Prof E Mail k raeissi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor s Dr Ahmad Saatchi Prof E Mail asaatchi@cc iut ac ir Abstract In this research Crofer22APU steel as an interconnect material has synthesized by mechanical alloying Pressing and sintering were applied to produce a sample with low porosity 3 55 At high temperatures oxidation reduces the efficiency of Crofer interconnects In order to prevent growth of oxide layers samples were coated by spinel coating Mn Co 3O4 A thin layer of Mo and Co was electrodeposited on samples Electrodeposition is low cost and incompatible with samples shape Subsequent oxidation was performed at 800 oC the temperature at which a fuel cell works to produce spinel structures on the surface EDS analysis at cross section revealed that the spinel coating has effectively prevented chrome to evaporate Moreover uncoated sample has electrical resistance 19 76 times more than coated sample This shows that the spinel coating can intensively reduce the electrical resistance of the samples Keywords Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Interconnect Electrodeposition Spinel Mn Co 3O4
