Isfahan University of Technology Department of Textile Engineerigng Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of GF PP Composite Produced by Mono Axial Weft Knitting Fabric and Hybrid Fatemeh Nasiri Mhr textile@yahoo com May 10 2012 Degree M Sc Language Farsi Dr Hosein Hasani Dr Ali Zadhoosh Abstract Today the need for materials with high strength and stiffness and low weight and costs in various industries such as aerospace industry automotive construction etc have increased Since no single component material can not simultaneously satisfy all the requirements the use of composites has been developed Composite material multiple instruments are advanced materials with a combination of simple materials to create new materials with superior mechanical and physical properties Composite of consists of two main parts the matrix and the reinforcement Matrix by clipping reinforcement keeps its relative position The reinforcement which is improved the mechanical properties can be short or long and continuous fibers In this study thermoplastic GF PP composite was produced First with optimization knitting state weft knitted fabric with PP yarns on flat knitting machine fabricated with 3 different structure Rib1x1 Rib2x2 and Fullcardigan To reinforced the fabrics glass fibers was placed on fabric structure in weft direction The samples with the optimization of various factors such as temperature pressure heat pre heating time and pressure time by hot pressing process conversed into composites After determining the optimal structure in order to increase the dimensional stability of the composite polypropylene granules with the addition of two different weighted combinations of the matrix and glass fibers in composite was created To examine the effect of changes in the composition weighted composites the tensile and impact tests were performed In the third step to improve uniformity and matrix properties silica nanoparticles were used Silica nanoparticles with a 1 5 3 4 5 and 6 percent added to the composite with improved textures To investigate the effect of the matrix material and silica nanoparticles simultaneously composite with 4 5 percent silica nanoparticle and 60 percent matrix material was also produced Finally the samples were placed on viewing angles of 0 and 90 degrees to investgated the balancing effect of the composite Among the three fabric structure produced in this study Fullcardygan structure due to produced 68 5 percent weight ratio for reinforcement part and also create a matrix with uniform distribution and proper thickness was chosen as the optimal structure Composites produced with the best fabric structure by adding polypropylene granules silica nanoparticles and balancing were further investigated Add granulated polypropylene to composites with enhanced dimensional stability and
