Optimization of distance between anchors using soil arching effect Saeed Hosseinian saeed hosseinian@yahoo com Date of Submission 2013 01 22 Department of Mining Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Masoud Cheraghi Seifabad cheraghi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Amir Mahdi halabian Mahdi@cc iut ac ir Abstract The development of urban constructions new challenges are discussed about excavation and support in deep foundation pit One of the effective factors in safe and economic design of supporting structures is soil arching effect Considering the soil arching effect the expenses of supporting structure construction can decrease In the first step for evaluation of the effect of soil arching on the supporting structure consisting of steel piles type 2IPE300 and anchors Plaxis 3D Tunnel software for three dimentional numerical modeling has been used For better comparison between the results the external loading conditions and technical specifications of the structural elements are assumed to be same In accordance with the geotechnical characteristics of A2 and L2 stations of Mashhad Urban Railway Line 2 two types of fine grained soil CL ML and coarse grained soil SC SM with the behavioral model of Hardening Soil HS have been used separately Modeling was introduced with 2 meters horizontal vertical distances between the anchors and was continued to of 4 meters distance In the second step the steel pile was removed and replaced with the concrete blocks in dimentions of 0 8 0 8 0 3 m The results showed that in both methods the increase in distance between anchors displacements increase and the safety factors decrease Displacements and safety factors in the fine grained soil is more than coarse grained soil Comparison between the two methods showed that in both type of the soils ground surface settlements lateral wall displacements in the block and anchor method is more than pile and anchors method as well as safety factors in the pile and anchors method is more than block and anchor method However settlements around insensitive construction the use of block and anchors method is economical Key words 1 soil arching 2 excavation 3 Plaxis 3D Tunnel software 4 Mashhad urban railway Line 2 project 5 supporting structure PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
