72 Production and Properties of Nylon6 Nanofibers Contained Natural Amino Acid Modified Clay Rana Ghorbanzadeh r ghorbanzadeh@tx iut ac ir Date of Submission 2013 01 19 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Persian Supervisors Sedighe Borhani sborhani@cc iut ac ir Mostafa Youssefi youssefi@cc iut ac ir Advisor Shadpour Mallakpour mallak@cc iut ac ir Abstract In the past decade polymer layered silicate nanocomposites PLSN have received considerable attention in fundamental research and industry exploitation due to their potential to display synergistically advanced properties with only small amounts of clay loading Conversion hydrophilic surface clay to hydrophobic surface is an important prerequisite for successful fabrication polymer clay nanocomposites NCs One of the materials used for clay modification is natural amino acids Alpha amino acides are one type of the major building blocks of all living systems being the principal components of all naturally occurring peptides and proteins Access to these materials is easy and requires little cost The use of these compounds in the hybrid materials increases the biocompatibility of such system and allows interactions with biological organism In this work the morphologies and properties of Polyamide6 PA6 Montmorillonite MMT electrospun nanofibers were studied in this research Nanocomposite fibers were prepared by electrospinning of homogeneous solution of PA6 Acid formic solution containing different concentration of unmodified and MMT modified with natural amino acid OMMT The properties of electrospun PA6 OMMT and PA6 MMT nanofibers were compared It was observed that viscosity and surface tension of PA6 solution decrease with addition MMT and OMMT FTIR spectra of PA6 NCs nanofibers obviously showed the characteristic absorption peaks related to only polymeric groups and MMT or OMMT This showed that there is no chemical linkage or interaction between PA6 and MMT or OMMT in the resulting NCs Since the amount of amino acid in the MMT and also amount of NPs in the sample is negligible with respect to polymer no peak from OMMT in NCs spectrum was observed FE SEM images of NCs revealed well dispersion of OMMT NPs in the PA6 NCs and some aggregation of MMT NPs in these NCs Results showed that the PA6 nanofibers diameter was decreased from 148 4 to 86 1 nm with increasing in OMMT NPs content from 0 to 6 wt due to the increased conductivity of PA6 polymer solution Also base on the results decrease in the diameter of PA6 OMMT nanofibers is more than PA6 MMT nanofibers X ray diffraction pattern of composite nanofibers confirmed the presence of NPs in samples TGA results showed that the onset temperature of degradation for the PA6 NCs bers was lower than that of PA6 nano bers The yield of charred residue at 700 increased for NCs fibers The TGA results evidently suggest that the thermal stability of PA6 nanofibers is enhanced by loading silicate layers and the thermal stability of the PA6 loaded with OMMT is better than that loaded with MMT Considering of differential scanning calorimeter DSC thermograms for electrospun PA6 nanpfibers indicated that introduction of clay decreased the glass transition temperature This decrease of Tg might be due to plasticizer role of NPs The Tg of PA6 NCs decreased by increasing amount of MMT and OMMT NPs due to the increasing the mobility of polymeric chains close to the NPs Also results showed that mixing method of NPs and polymer solution there isn t significant effect on the properties of electrospun PA6 OMMT Keywords Nanoclay Natural amino acide PA6 nanofiber Electrospinning nanocomposites PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
