Investigation into Cosmetic Textile for Hair Care Fariba Mashhadi Meyghani Faribamashhadi textile@gmail com Date of Submission 2012 1 19 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 8415683111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor A Khodami khodami@cc iut ac ir Abstract In peopl s daily life clothing plays an important role in protecting the human body from dangers in the environment such as weather e g strong sunlight extreme heat or cold insects noxious chemicals and contact clothing not only protect the human skin from danger but also care health Application of different preparation methods and functional finishes could increase the textiles added values Therefore it is expected that cosmetic healthcare textiles to show remarkable increase trend demands Owning the rapid development of novel science and technologies textile materials have also found applications in the cosmetic field in recent years by working as a basis for cosmetic substances delivery system By wearing the cosmetic textile the body will be covered all the time until the active ingredients were used out In addition it improves the skin performance and can cover much large proportion of the body when comparing with common cosmetics Cosmetic textiles have a similar application as compared with creams and lotions The only difference is in the ingredient release mechanism Due to the direct contact of textiles with skin all kinds of skin care ingredients like anti aging whitening sunscreens vitamins could be properly loaded on the textile materials acting as a novel delivery system for nutrient and active ingredients which could be directly absorbed by the wearer skin Different hair care functions like anti dandruff anti alopecia oil control and color preserve etc can be impacted onto the textile that enables acting as an alternative basis for the delivery systems of hair care substances In this project polyester Viscose blended fabric that generally applied for scarf was finished to produce hair care cosmetic textile fabric The Myrtus essential oil was preferred to finished cosmetic textile hair care fabric It was applied on the fabric coupled with natural bees wax to control the release mechanism as a gradual delivery system while the natural gum of Pistacia atlantica was applied as a binder to improve the finish fastness properties Different solvent such as hexen were examined to find an acceptable solving procedure which resulted in choosing n hexane with proper features for this purpose In addition different analytical methods like FTIR UV Vis and GC Ms were used to investigate the presence of applied active components The effects of finishing on the samples properties were evaluated by measuring air permeability bending length bending rigidity as well as thickness The results of finished samples washing fastness studying by GC Ms indicate that all ingredients remained on the sample surface after washing cycle Furthermore determination of release mechanism showed that the sample finished with Myrtus essential oil bees wax and Pistacia atlantica gum created a gradual release system as compared with other tested samples Key words Cosmetic Textile Myrtus essential oil Bees wax Pistacia atlantica PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
