Improvement of Fetal ECG Extraction Methods Based on Independent Component Analysis Nafiseh karimi Nafiseh karimi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission March 13 2013 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr Rasoul Amir Fattahi Fattahi@cc iut ac ir Dr Behzad nazari Nazari@cc iut ac irAbstract Heart defects are among the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect relateddeaths Eight out of one thousand born live infants have some form of heart defect making it the singlemostcommon class of congenital abnormalities Identification of these cases during early pregnancy reducesrisksby timely treatment or planned delivery The non invasive Fetal ECG FECG monitoring by meansof abdominal surface electrodes provides valuable information about the cardiac electrical activity of fetus In previous studies various methods have been developed for the processing and extraction of fetalelectrocardiogram ECG signals recorded from the maternal body surface However due to the low signal to noise ratio of these signals the application of fetal electrocardiography has been limited toheartbeat analysis and invasive ECG recordings during labor In this research we present a new method to achieve fetal heart rate in a first step and in a second step wetryto get some information about morphology of fetal cardiac electrical signals so we reduce noise of recordedsignals from body surface this reduction is performed by various methods and the best method is chosen then we achieve to the fetal cardiac signal by separation presented method In this approach theimprovementof methods based on ICA is possible and separation is performed by reduction in number ofelectrodes online separation is another approach has been concentrated in thesis Se and PDV obtained98 2and 98 6 for offline separation and 98 and 97 33 for online separation Keywords Fetal ECG ICA method Online Extraction Equivariant adaptive sourceseparation
