139 Emphasizing on Technological Solutions Seyed Javad Seyed Mohammadi Firuzabadi sj seyedmohamadi@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 06 01 2013 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology 84156 83111 Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Jamshid Parvizian japa@cc iut ac ir Abstract Measures on safety of vehicles include also the safety of passengers The increase of traffic accidents and loss of lives and injuries requires a deeper understanding of the safety of vehicles While urban road accidents are higher in number than road accidents the severity of the latter accidents is worse Thus the urban accidents are expected to cause less deaths and injuries In this thesis the aim is first to understand the share of urban accidents in the total death and injury toll of Isfahan The reasons to choose Isfahan stem in availability and accessibility of data on one hand and also on the fact that Isfahan represents a relatively large city in the country The second aim is to propose a technological solution to target the worst problems on the accidents which go back to motorcyclists in the city While motorcycle has relatively an important contribution to the daily transport activities about 50 of the total death annually goes back to accidents in which motorcycles are involved A systematic approach is taken to analyze the problem and define the role of each factor in causing the deadly accidents Then technological solutions have been provided to make the motorcycles safer and less deadly while the joy of riding is not reduced A model is designed built and tested to validate the proposed solutions to a certain level of feasibility Keywords Urban Transportation Urban Traffic Accidents Safety of Vehicles Motorcycle PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
