The Analysis of Anonymity in Vehicular Ad hoc Network with Safe Resistant and Scalable Solutions for the Interaction of Safety messages Mohadeseh Ahmadipanahmehrabadi m ahmadipanahmehrabadi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2013 02 25 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Persian Supervisor Mehdi Berenjkoub brnjkb@cc iut ac ir Masoud Reza Hashemi hashemim@cc iut ac ir Abstract Improvement in information technology IT necessitates the efficient interaction between wireless and mobile communication instruments Correspondingly wireless networks have experienced such a development in the present decade Vehicular Ad hoc Network VANET is an example In VANET different forms of information including safety information can be communicated However anonymity is one important challenge for such networks Several solutions have already been suggested for realizations of anonymity including anonymity on the basis of the certificate of the anonymous group signature and using Pseudonym Though anonymity is important malicious anonymity is also problematic For instance a member of the network may endanger the safety of other drivers by sending inaccurate traffic information Hence it is necessary to equip the network with a system to evaluate the accuracy of the data in spite of the anonymity of the vehicles In case of identifying a misbehaving performance in the network anonymity should be canceled This will help the police detect and fine the mischievous vehicles and stopping the disseminating the fake traffic information This type of anonymity is called conditional anonymity One application of the conditional anonymity is to detect the vehicles involved in accidents Several solutions have been suggested to detect such cases They are usually classified in two types data centered and entity centered The former solely focuses onthe history of the vehicles in the network to validate the data while the latter uses both the data in the network and other parameters like the distance of the reporting vehicle The present study attempts to find a safe robust data centered resolution on the basis of two infrastructures of specific and direct communication between vehicles to interact the safety messages in VANET so that it fulfills the basic necessities of the network like conditional anonymity The proposed method makes use of Pseudonym to serve anonymity In addition managing the Pseudonym is done via Public Key Registry system PKR which is more efficient and more scalable than Public Key Infrastructure system PKI The main advantage of the proposed method is using less presupposed factors than other methods resistant against Sybil attack Other merits are detecting reporting and validating the incorrect spatial data Consequently validation of the reported events will be possible with less pieces of evidence The results of the proposed method proved safer and more efficient in comparison to other data centered validation methods Keywords Vehicular Ad hoc Network VANET conditional anonymity Public Key Registery Data centric behaviour detection sybil Attack false location information Detectinon PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
