Effect of Various Graizing Management on Soil Characteristics and Species Diversity in Bijar Protected Area Kurdistan Province Khaled Mohammadi Email Address kmohammadi39@yahoo com 11 Sep 2013 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan Univesity of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mostafa Tarkesh Esfahani Hamid Reza Karim Zadeh Advisor Mohammad Reza Vahabi Email Address tarkesh es@yahoo comAbstractRangeland is a natural ecosystem which includes major resources of genetic reserves and different types ofplant species and this biodiversity indicates stability of rangeland against environmental and biological variablefactors One of the physical destructive pressures on rangeland which reduce diversity and destruction ofsensitive plant elements is overgrazing by livestock Many studies show that grazing by livestock causesreduction of species diversity It is necessary to evaluate effects of graving by livestock to find correctmanagement policy and adopt a suitable strategy for trapping in development of rangelands and particularlyprotected zones This research was conducted to determine effect of grazing management for all kinds oflivestock wildlife wildlife and domesticated animals domesticated animals on physical and chemicalcharacteristics of soil and species diversity In this regard three fields of grazing management different fromsimilar ecological conditions including safe zone only under grazing by wildlife protected zone undercommon grazing by wildlife and livestock and free zone only under grazing by livestock in Bijar protectedzone and its adjacent zones located in Bijar city Kordestan Province were selected by protecting speciesdiversity and showing vegetative potentials and introducing soil characteristics which indicate quality of soiland effect of management type in rangeland ecosystem In any studied zone canopy cover percent of the plantspecies was measured and was obtained from minimum level method of species of any zone and surface soilwas randomly systematically sampled in depth of 0 10 and 10 30 cm in four replications and in 100 meterdistances and longer Totally 24 soil samples were taken from surface and deep horizons and parameters ofsoil tissue apparent special weight organic matter soil acidity electric conduction total nitrogen andabsorbable potassium were measured Then edaphic human and managerial factors affecting each one ofplaces were measured and nonparametric indices of species richness species uniformity and diversity werecalculated To study relationship between species and environmental factors Multivariate Data Analysis ranking were used To compare means of the mentioned parameters in three studied zones ANOVAwas performed Results of this research indicate significant differences of the studied zones for speciesrich indices Menhink and Margalef Based on results of this study the best index is Margalef s speciesrichness Among nonparametric indices of species diversity hill N1 and Shannon Winner indices showedsignificant difference This difference was also found between safe zone and protected zone and free zone So organic matter total nitrogen and absorbable potassium in safe and protected zone are more than those in freezone Continual grazing also increases apparent special weight of soil soil acidity and reduction of soilpermeability Therefore protection of the zone caused to increase plant vegetation percent and species diversityparticularly safe zone Considering climatic conditions of the zone grazing management had no considerableeffect on electrical conduction and soluble cations Studies mention that there is significant difference betweenthe studied zones safe zone and protected zone and free zone so that when we get far from human andmanagerial factors distance fro village distance from water resources and road species diversity and speciesrichness will increase Results also show that the presence of wildlife in protected zones is effective onmodificati
