Vibration Analysis of Turbojet Rotor Mohammad Hadi Jalali Email mh jalali@me iut ac ir Date of submission September 20 2013 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mostafa Ghayour Email ghayour@cc iut ac irAbstractRotordynamics is a branch of dynamics that deals with investigation of dynamic behavior of rotatingsystems Dynamic analysis of turbomachinery motors is vital and important because of the high speeds of theturbomachinery rotors and vibration problems that can be occured in these high speeds Turbojet rotor canproduce strong vibration due to its high speed in the operational conditions and this vibration may causedamage to the rotating parts of the turbojet motor or even failure of the motor completely Thus to avoidresonant situations modal analysis of rotor is very important in the design and development stages Fullrotordynamic analysis is aslo mandatory in design and preventive maintenance of rotor to avoid strongvibrations before and after manufacturing For this purpose effective approaches such as finite elementmethod which is used in this thesis are used to analyze the system In this thesis investigation of dynamic behavior and modal analysis of two turbojet rotors are done Investigation of the small rotor consists of modal analysis of the non rotating rotor and analysis of thedynamic behavior of the rotor in the rotating conditions Modal analysis of rotor is done in the free free andclamped boundary conditions by considering the bearings using one dimensional Timoshenko beam finiteelement model 3D finite element model by Ansys software classic modal test and ambient modal test by theuse of laser dopplervibrometer LDV and Accelerometer The Campbell diagram and critical speeds areobtained using both of the FE models and unbalance response and operational defelction shapes in the criticalspeeds are obtained using beam FEM in order to observe the rotating behavior of rotor completely Finally the results obtained for the small rotor are compared to each other Evaluation of theoretical and experimentalresults show the accuracy of the FE models and experimental results Modal and full rotordynamic analysis of the bigger rotor are done using beam FEM Natural frequencies andmode shapes in the rotating and non rotating conditions Campbell diagram critical speeds unbalanceresponse and operational deflection shapes in the critical speeds are the results obtained for the bigger rotorusing beam elements The results of the analyses of the bigger rotor can be used to optimize the design of therotor in order to consider the design characteristics related to vibrations and prevent vibration problemsbefore manufacturing of the rotor Keywords Turbojet rotor Modal analysis Modal Testing Dynamic behavior Finite elementmethod Campbell diagram
