Analysis and modeling of heavy metal removal of chromium from aqueous solutions by Amygdalus Scoparia shell and Tmarind fruit shell activated with sulfuric acid Morteza Shahmoradi Morteza Shahmoradi@cv iut ac ir Date of Submission th Sep Department of Civil Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors A Taebi H HasheminejadAbstractionThe main topic of this research is studying function of agricultural adsorbents as an adsorbent for heavy metals In this research Amygdalus Scoparia shell and Tamarind fruit shell activated with sulphuric acid was used asagricultural inexpensive adsorbents for Cr removal There are five main factors in order to study the optimizationof various factors on the rate of adsorption for Amygdalus Scoparia shell pH in the range to adsorbentdose in the range to g L Initial concentration of Cr in the range to mg L contact time in the range to min and shaker speed in the range to rpm were investigated in batch reactor For tamarind fruit shellactivated with sulphuric acid pH in the range to adsorbent dose in the range to g L Initialconcentration of Cr in the range to mg L contact time in the range to min and shaker speed in therange to rpm were investigated in batch reactor It was used RSM design For the main tests in order toreduce the number of tests saving time cost beneficial and provide each share of factors The overall resultsobtained showed that the equilibrium time was min for Amygdalus Scoparia shell and min for Tamarindfruit shell activated with sulphuric acid Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm are the best describing ofadsorption functional in the adsorption equilibrium for the adsorbents used In optimum conditions the removalefficiency of chromium from synthetic and real samples for Amygdalus Scoparia shell pH adsorbentdose g L adsorbate dose mg L contact time min and shaker speed rpm was obtained and respectively In optimum conditions the removal efficiency of chromium from synthetic and real samples forAmygdalus Scoparia shell pH adsorbent dose g L adsorbate dose mg L contact time min and shakerspeed rpm was obtained and respectively that is Indicating the high performance of the materialsused in the removal of chromium in comparing of activated carbon According to the results of ANOVA forAmygdalus Scoparia shell and for Tamarind fruit shell activated with sulphuric acid all the factors variables aresignificant in studies on chromium removal efficiency As a conclusion of this study it is stated that the wasteused in this study are able to remove or reduce the concentration of chromium in the aquatic solutions and it canbe a cheap option instead of common adsorbents as activated carbon Keywords Chromium Agricultural waste Wastewater Treatment Industrial wastewater
