Production and Evaluation the Properties of Oat Protein Packaging Film Reinforced by Electrospon Nylon Maryam Habibi Zarabad maryamhabibizaranad@yahoo com September 2013 Department of Food Science and Technology Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Mehdi Kadivar prof Kadivar@cc iut ac ir Javad Keramat Assoc prof Keramat@cc iut ac irAbstract Nowadays environmental pollution has become a serious problem all over the worldso that accumulation of plastic wastes originating from petroleum has caused a greatconcern This material remains undegraded in nature for a long time One of the mostimportant applications of synthetic polymers is in food packaging Therefore a lot ofefforts have been made to solve the concern by substitution of these kinds of polymerswith those which are classified as biodegradable materials Most of these materials arederived from plant or animal tissues However shortcoming of layers made frombiodegradable materials would be their weak mechanical and barrier properties whichneed to be improved One of the methods to achieve this purpose is using nanofiber thatis usually prepared by electro spinning method In this study the nano fibers of nylon polyamide 6 in the form of web was used to reinforce the film prepared from oatprotein concentrate Due to orientation occurred during electro spinning andentanglement of fiber chains web showed high strength was able to improve the strengthof the matrix when compare with control film Nylon with amine groups can interactwith amine and carboxyl groups of protein that in turn led to improve mechanical andbarrier properties In this study oats protein was extracted and then casted Laterelectrospinned polyamide web according to four different weight ratio was placedbetween two casted protein layers and their physicochemical along with barrierproperties of nanocomposite were compared with those of control films The resultindicated that presence of web interlayer increased tensile strength and modulus anddecrease gas and water vapor permeability and solubility significantly while filmlightness did not change Kay words Biodegradable Electrospinning Nanofiber Oat protein Three layered film Nanocomposite
