Effects of Different Levels of Potassium and Calcium in Nutrient Solution on Vegetative Growth Yield and Quality of Tomato in a Soilless Culture Samiye Bakhshaie s bakhshaee@ag iut ac ir December Department of Horticulture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mostafa Mobli Mobli@cc iut ac ir Abstract One of the most important factor limiting the product of agricultural crops in the developing countries is the poor soils So the plant nutrition play an important role in crop yield soilless culture was started from mid nineteen century use for the physiological processes and so applied from for commercial produc hydroponic systems can be divided into two groups according to its media liquid media and aggregate substrate The second type is more common The effects of different levels of potassium and calcium on vegetative growth yield and quality of tomato cv honey were studied in a completely randomized design experiment with replications with mixed of sand and perlite in a greenhouse hydroponic system in center of research soilless culture of Isfahan University of Technology Treatments were including Nutrient Solutions control complete Johnson solution and modified Johnson solution with potassium levels of and mg L with constant amount of Ca mg L calcium levels of and mg L with constant amount of K mg L Water and nutrition requirements of the plants were supplied with a drip irrigation system open system Daily watering and feeding the plants for hours initially and then every minutes to every minutes once and each time took about a minute During the experiment Vegetative characteristics reproductive and analysis of elements nutrition were measured plant tests at the end of experiment to measure the growth characteristics and analyze the element Results showed that the greatest fresh weight of shoots was observed from K Ca mg L treatment similar to Johnson solution The highest and lowest fresh weight of roots were observed from K Ca mg L and K Ca mg L respectively Also effect of different nutrient solutions on dry weight of roots was significant Results showed that the greatest and lowest chlorophyll content was observed from of K Ca and K Ca respectively Also the effect of treatments on chlorophyll fluorescence number of fruit per plant and yield was not significant but highest and lowest fresh weight of fruits were observed from complete Johnson solution K Ca mg L and k Ca mg L treatment respectively Results showed that the effect of different nutrient solutions on dry matter and height of fruit was not significant but the effect of treatments on firmness total soluble solid vitamin C and titrable acidity showed significant The greatest firmness was observed from K Ca mg L treatment Results showed that with the increase level of potassium in nutrition solution increased content of total soluble solid vitamin C and titrable acidity in fruit was increased but increase level of calcium reduced this parameters K concentration in shoot and fruit increased with the increscent level of K in nutrient solutions Also with the increscent level of Ca in nutrient solution Ca concentration in shoot and fruit increased Keywords Potassium calcium tomato hydroponic PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www pdffactory com
