Utilization of N trimellitylimido L aminoacids dicarboxylic acidsas coupling agents on the surface of zirconia nanoparticles and its application for the manufacturing of poly amide imide nanocomposites containing L leucine aminoacid and diamine sulphone Leila Mani l mani@ch iut ac ir 2014 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Abstract In this study chiral and biodegradable polymer nanocomposites NC s based on aminoacid were synthesized For this purpose at first various kinds of bioactive dicarboxylic acidscontaining different amino acids have been used as modifiers coupling agent for the surfacemodification of nanozirconia Trimellitic anhydride and L amino acids L alanine L leucine L methionine L phenylalanine and L valine have been used for the preparation of opticallyactive diacids Ultrasonic method is used as a technique for the modification Differentinteractions between modifiers and hydroxyl groups on the surface of nanoparticles NP s make them to be changed from hydrophilic nature to hydrophobic character As a result ofrepulsive forces between modified NPs they can better disperse FT IR XDR TGA FE SEM and TEM were performed on prepared samples to show successfully modification ofnano ZrO2 Then the modified ZrO2 with N trimellitylimido L leucine was selected forincorporation in polymer matrix In order to achieve a better dispersion of NPs into thepolymer matrix the same diacid was used in the structure of polymer So a high performance poly amide imide PAI from the polycondensation reaction between 4 4 diaminediphenylsulphone and bioactive dicarboxylic acid N trimellitylimido L leucinethrough a green media was synthesized In this reaction triphenyl phosphite and tetra n butylammonium bromide are used as condensing agent and suitable media without using anyorganic solvent and catalyst Incorporation of different weight percent of modified ZrO2 intothis polymeric matrix produced nanocomposites NC s with improved properties Ultrasonictechnique was used for homogeneous dispersion of NPs in the PAI matrix Finally resultantsNCs were characterized by FT IR XDR TGA FE SEM and TEM Keywords ZrO2 nanoparticle Nanocomposite Surface modification Poly amide imide Ultrasonic radiation
