91 Formation and Study of Surface Porosity of PCL Nanofibers for Medical Applications Seyed Ali Mir Mohammad Sadeghi a mir@tx iut ac ir Date of Submission 09 22 2013 Department of Textile Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Prof M Morshed morshed@cc iut ac ir Prof H Tavanai tavanai@cc iut ac ir Abstract In the first part of this research porous polycaprolactone nanofibers was produced using the wet electrospinning method At first Methylene Chloride and Dimethylformamide solvents were picked and a water bath was used in order to collect the web during the electrospinning process Electrospinning solutions with 90 10 80 20 and 70 30 ratios were prepared from the mixture of Methylene Chloride and Dimethylformamide solvents and the effect of the ratio of two solvents on viscosity and electric conductivity was studied Also in order to find the optimal concentration of polymer four different concentrations of 10 5 11 11 5 and 12 w v of polycaprolactone were prepared and the electrospinning process was done for each Then the effect of spinning distance on the porosity of fibers was studied and the area and the aspect ratio of the pores were measured using the Porosity software We used a SEM in order to study the morphology of the produced fibers using the wet electrospinning method and assess whether or not the fibers are porous Since it was likely for the web produced by the wet electrospinning method to have its tensile strength reduced the tensile strength of the produced webs were measured in three spinning distances of 1 5 4 5 and 6 centimeters using the Zwick device Also in order to compare the crystallinity and thickness of the crystals of porous polycaprolactone nanofibers and non porous nanofibers webs we used the DSC thermal analysis method In the second part of this research Nystatin drug was added to the electrospinning solution and the effect of drug on electric conductivity and viscosity of the solution was studied Also we used SEM in order to study the morphology of the fibers produced through a wet electrospinning method and assess whether or not the fibers are porous under the new situation with Nystatin added to the elctrospinning solution An FTIR was used in order to study the origination of reaction and interaction between polycaprolactone and Nystatin Keywords Polycaprolactone Nystatin Wet Electrospinning Phase Separation Porous Nanofibers
