86 Department of Mechanic Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Assist Prof Mahdi Nili Ahmadabadi m nili@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Assist Prof Ahmadreza Zamani arzamani@cc iut ac ir AbstractThe anemometer is a device for measuring wind speed which is commonly used for weatherapplications Standards for the calibration of anemometers depending on the type of anemometerare different These anemometers can be calibrated in the open environment and in a certain heightwhich has a good range of wind speed and direction In first part of this thesis a cup anemometerwas calibrated in wind tunnel Wind tunnel makes a carefully controlled airflow that through themodel and necessary information is obtained from it Wind tunnel is one of the best and cheapestways to do empirical research on the science of aerodynamics The main reason for the design ofwind tunnel is to create a uniform air flow with minimum turbulence and no angle in test section For this purpose anemometer was set in wind tunnel test section and under the different tilt angleand certain flow velocity was tested due to achieve calibration curves For this purpose cupanemometer is tested in 9 different tilt angle and transfer function is obtained at any tilt angle in 8 30 meter per second velocity range Air quality flow optimize with honeycomb and two grid layersbefor calibration For testing the test section flow quality velocity profile and turbulence intensityevaluated with hot wire Experimental data have been shown that turbulence intensity reached to0 3 percent and test section current was been particulary steady Instantenous velocity anddisturbance of turbulence evaluated with hot wire in downstream By hot wire can measure theinstantaneous velocity with high frequency and using the instantaneous velocity can measure theaverage speed flow disturbances Reynolds stress flow temperature direction of flow two phaseflow parameters et cetera In second part of thesis in order to study anemometer flow field unsteady numerical simulation based on dynamic mesh in cfx has been done ScienceComputational Fluid Dynamics CFD as a powerful tool for analyzing the behavior of fluid flowin the system with complex geometry and in the last decade has a significant progress At the endof this project results of numerical simulation verified by experimental data Flow investigationnear the wake region show that out of the wake region the average of flow velocity is increasedand turbulence intensity is decreased Keywords Anemometer Wind tunnel Turbulence Numerical simulation Calibration Isfahan University of Technology
