Integrating Production Planning and Preventive Maintenance Scheduling for K out of M Parallel Machines Mahbobeh Asgari Jouybari Mahbobeh asgari@in iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 01 27 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Naser Mollaverdi naserm@cc iut ac irAbstractplanning a production system is efficient and effective when the features capabilities and limitations of thesystem checked well and also the desired criteria and priorities considered in the program clearly One of themost influential factors in productivity of a production system is the preventive maintenance activities whichis usually performed preventative and programmed Preventive maintenance is a method for improving theperformance of equipment which is performed to prevent random failure Maintenance activities take timesand costs and therefore should be considered in the production planning process It is clear that when theprocess of preventive maintenance scheduling and production planning is done independently theproduction planning would not be optimal In this study the simultaneous production and preventivemaintenance programming in a multi machine and multi product environment defined and solved Also dueto reduce production costs considering possibility of setup transference between periods added to the modelfor products and the other hand with considering overtime and subcontracts is satisfied the possibility ofachieve the goal to supply the demand in each period despite production capacity constraints in order tomaintain the desired level of manufacturing system reliability preventive maintenance scheduled for eachmachine Also it is considered that non timely implementation of preventive maintenance operations resulting in the imposition of fine for decreasing the reliability of the system in this study the model isdeveloped for the state of K out of M parallel machines The objective is to determine production plan assigning and sequencing for parallel machines and also scheduling the maintenance activities formanufacturing system The overall cost of the system over the entire horizon is the sum of production costs corrective and preventive maintenance costs setup costs inventory holding costs lagged order costs backorder overtime costs outsourcing costs and cost associated with decreasing the system reliability fromthe predetermined specified level In this study first a mixed integer non linear programming model for this problem is presented Thenregarding the complexity of the problem a method of solving meta heuristic based genetic algorithm isproposed Comparison the results of running the genetic algorithm with the solution of software GAMS withDICOPT solver showed the high performance of genetic algorithm both in terms of quality of a solution andthe solution time Keywords Production Planning Preventive Maintenance K out of M Parallel Machines Reliability SetupTransference Meta huristic Algorithm
