80 Synthesis of Linear Alkyl Benzene in the presence of Beta and Mordenite ZeolitesSynthesis of a Glucose sensor based on the operating Carbon Nanotubes tag Marzieh esmaili chermahini m esmaili@ch iut ac ir Jan 18 2014 Department of chemistry Isfahan University of thechnology Isfahan 84156 83111 iranDegree M Sc Languege FarsiSupervisor Prof M Ghiaci Email mghiaci@cc iut ac irAbstractThis thesis is cosisted of two parts In the first part the process of synthesizing linear alkyl benzene via thetransalkylation reaction of 1 4 didodecyl benzene is highlighted 1 4 didodecyl benzene was used as a modelcompound that is similar to heavy alkyl benzene we have investigated the reaction of 1 4 didodecyl benzene withtoluene in the presence of acidic zeolites such as H beta and H mordenite In the second part a new glucosesensor via functionalizing carbon nanotub multilayer as a proper base was synthesized To achieve such a goal two different anchor type ligands with different lengths have been synthesized and then silver nanoparticles wereimmobilized on them LABS is an active surfactant that is used to produce laundry powder and dish sub in detergent industry Besides high level of benzene is produced in petroleum industry annually LAB is produced from the reaction of benzenewith olefin and then it is converted to LABS In the reaction of benzene with olefin not only LAB but also heavyalkyl benzenes HAB which have 2 or 3 alkyl chains are produced Considering what mentioned we have triedto produce LAB from HAB via transalkylation process Also 1 4 didodeyl benzene is used as a similar model asHAB This transalkylation reaction in the presence of beta zeolite is performed in two different systems a batchsystem and a contineous system is a sub and supercritical toluene with the H beta zeolite SiO2 Al2O3 38 Thereaction is reached to an optimal conditons for these two systems and in these conditions the operation of betaand mordenite zeolites with different ratio of SiO2 Al2O3 are survayed and the best catalyst is introduced ThenHAB transalkylation reaction has been done with toluene in optimal conditions in the presence of the bestcatalyst that was beta zeolite SiO2 Al2O3 38 The extension of selectivity of LAB can be increased if benzeneis used instead of toluene and by removal of some side transaction Nowadays glucose sensor is one of the successful sensors that is used to measure blood glucose concentration because of its good electrical connection carbon nanotube multilayer is useful for diabeties In this part of thethesis the carbon nanotube multilayer was functionalized with two different end groups one with an amine andthe other with a thiol compound then silver nanoparticles were immobilized on them Keywords Transalkylation reaction 1 4 didodecyl benzene Linear alkyl benzene Heavy alkyl benzene beta zeolite mordenite zeolite Multiwall Carbon nanotube Glucose sensore Silver nanoparticle
