Evaluation of linseed berseem clover mix intercrop as affected by nitrogen application and planting arrangement in weeds interference condition Vahid Reihani Vahid r345@yahoo com December 16 2013 Department of Agronomy and Plant BreedingCollege of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan Iran 84156 83111Degree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor Hassan Karimmojeni kmojeni@cc iut ac irMohammadhosein Ehtemam hehtemam@cc iut ac irAbstractThe present experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different nitrogen levels and plantingarrangements on yield yield component and weeds control of linseed Linum usitatisimum berseem clover Trifolium alexandrinum mix intercrop in research farm of Isfahan University of Technology on Lavark NajafAbad region Isfahan Iran in 2012 Experiment was arranged in split plots based on completely randomizedblock design in three replications The main plots involved different nitrogen application rates in three levels 0kg ha 30 kg ha 60 kg ha and subplots included different planting arrangements of two crops in sixscenario 400 plants m2 linseed 430 plants m2 berseem clover mixed intercropping of linseed clover in 200plants m2 linseed and 215 plants m2 berseem clover 280 plants m2 linseed and 301plants m2 berseem clover 200plants m2 linseed and 301 plants m2 berseem clover 280 plants m2 linseed and 215 plants m2 berseem clover The highest weeds dry matter obtained when 60 kg ha nitrogen were applied in monoculture of berseem cloverand linseed Linseed had the highest yield in monoculture and 0 kg ha nitrogen treatments Different mixed intercropping arrangements had no difference yield significantly Berseem clover and linseed had the highesttotal yield in nitrogen application of 30 kg ha and treatments 200 plants m2 linseed and 301 plants m2 berseemclover respectively Total yield for both crops was higher in intercropping treatments and varied significantlycompared to that for individually monocultures suggesting superiority of mixed intercropping than monoculture The highest land equivalent ratio LER 1 45 was obtained when treatment linseed berseem clover 280plants m2 and 301 plants m2 berseem clover applied Application of 30 kg ha nitrogen also resulted in highestLER among others As a whole results from the experiment showed that mixed intercropping of both crops andapplication of 30 kg ha N is much more efficient than monocultures resulting in the highest yield Also mixingboth species is shown to be successful in controlling weeds and hence it can be taken as appropriate method tocontrol of weeds Keywords linseed berseem clover land equivalent ratio yield and yield components weeds control
