Preparartion and application of some mono carboxylates and dicarboxylates of heavy metals as thermal stabilizers and investigation of their synergistic effect Beheshteh Hajian B Hajian1365@gmail com Date of Submission JAN 2014 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSuppvisor H Chiniforooshan Assist Prof chini@cc iut ac ir Adviser M Hajian Assoc Prof sci@ui as ir AbstractThe main purpose of this research work is synthesis and application of some mono and dicarboxylates of metalsgroup II and X of periodic elements such as Pb Ca Cd Zn and Ba as thermal stabilizers in polyvinyl chloride plastisol prepared by emulsion process For this purpose these compounds were synthesized by reaction of amonocarboxylic acid such as stearic acid and a dicarboxylic acid as adipic acid with compounds such as oxides chlorides or carbonates of the mentioned metals in obtimized conditions Then different amounts of the synthesizedcarboxylates were added to the PVC plastisols and heated them in a curing oven The film samples were tested bydifferent methods such as FT IR TGA measurement of HCl released during processing ESM and tensile tests Allthe obtained results confirmed thermal stability and synergistic effects of the thermal stabilizers in the polymer Keywords carboxylates of heavy metals thermal stabilizers polyvinylchloride thermaldegradation
