Analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer in radiative cooled dew water condensers Maryam Babaei Barchani m babaei@ce iut ac ir Date of Submission Department of Chemical Engineering IsfahanUniversity of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Dr S Gh Etemad and Dr M Haghshenas FardAbstract Water is an essential element of life on Earth But only 1 of this water isavailable and this small amount isn t uniformly distributed Providing required water forhuman animals and plants is one of the fundamental challenges in arid and low rainfallregions One of the Renewable sources of water supply in arid areas especially in lowrainfall seasons is use of dew water Many studies have been carried out by researchers inthis field The surfaces with the high emissivity have been used to condense the moistureof the air Through the night due to radiation with sky this surface loss heat andtherefore the surface temperature is reduces Liquid water can be obtained when thesurface exposed to moist air reaches a temperature that is below the dew pointtemperature It is possible to recover water from moist air without any external source ofenergy In this study CFD analysis is performed to determine the temperature distributionand the rate of moisture condensation over a wide range of operating conditions Effectsof air temperature relative humidity wind velocity and plate emissivity on thecondensation rate are investigated Horizontal plate Triangle wave plate and funnelcondenser have been used as condenser medium The results of simulation demonstratethat the yields of wave condensers are more than planar condenser Key words 1 Water harvesting 2 Dew collection 3 Radiative cooling 4 Radiative condenser5 Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD
