Interaction of CopperOxide Nanoparticles with Bioactive DiaciedsContaining of Natural Amino Acids and Its Utilization for Fabrication of Poly amide imide CuO Nanocomposites Derived from N trimellitylimido L valine and 4 4 methylenebis 3 chloro 2 6 diethylaniline Maryam Vahabi m vahabi@ch iut ac ir 2014 Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Abstract In this investigation in order to prevent agglomeration of NPs and to obtain high compatibility betweenthe NPs and the polymer matrix the surface of CuO NPs was modified with optically active dicarboxylicacids DA s containing various natural amino acids such as L alanine L phenylalanine L methionine L valine and L leucine The effects of coupling agents on the properties of NPs were investigated by Fouriertransform infrared FT IR spectra thermogravimetric analysis TGA X ray diffraction XRD fieldemission scanning electron microscopy FE SEM and transmission electron microscopy TEM The resultsof FT IR and TGA confirmed that the organic functional groups were successfully deposited on the surfaceof CuO NPs These DAs were selected as modifier due to their nontoxic nature and bioactive properties Therefore the modified CuO NPs could be environmentally friendly because of the presence of thesecoupling agents In the second project for studying the effect of surface modification on desperation of CuONPs functional optically active poly amide imide CuO nanocomposites PAI CuO NC s were successfullyfabricated through ultrasonic technique For this purpose a biodegradable optically active PAI wassynthesized via polycondansation reaction of N trimellitylimido L valine with 4 4 methylenebis 3 chloro 2 6 diethylaniline PAI CuO NCs containing 4 6 and 8 wt of DA modified CuO NPs were prepared viasonochemical reaction blending of DA modified CuO NPs with the PAI The resulting NCs were studied byFT IR XRD TGA FE SEM and TEM The data obtained by FT IR demonstrated the possible incorporationof CuO NPs in PAI matrix PAI CuO NCs showed enhanced thermal stability as compared with the purepolymer The improvement in thermal stability of composites reinforced with modified NPs is stronglyattributed to homogeneous dispersion of NPs and formation of chemical interactions between them and aswell as with the PAI matrix Keyword CuO nanoparticles Surface modification Optically active PAI Nanocomposite Ultrasonictechnique Thermal stability
