94 The Effect Of Internal Walls On The Performance Of A Dry Cooling Tower Iman Mobini Iman Mobini@me iut ac ir 16th September 2014 Department of Mechanical Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Ahmad Saboonchi Ahmadsab@cc iut ac irAbstractDry cooling towers with natural intake are of the most typical towers in the existing plants in low water places One of the problems regarding the performance of such towers is that of the effecting of the environmentalconditions on their performance The most effective factor is the environmental winds around the towers At thepresent time the governing equations on the flow fluid and the temperature in three dimensional areas aroundand inside the tower are segregated and solved with the use of the finite volume method Fluid stream inside andaround these towers in three different conditions are natural intake of the air inside the dry cooling tower forced flow of the air around the dry cooling tower and also the effect of the internal walls inserted inside thetower that has been modeled to increase the efficiency of the dry cooling tower when the environmental windsblows The results of this research suggests that although the internal walls set the flow of the air through the drycooling tower and eliminates the asymmetric distribution of the air pressure around and inside the dry coolingtower which was caused due to the environmental winds and makes an almost steady pressure around and insidethe dry cooling tower it doesn t affect highly on the efficiency of the dry cooling tower at the time of flowing ofthe environmental winds At the present time the heat exchangers haven t been modeled like the working modelso that the heat exchanger model of the Fluid software has been used Therefore the number of used elementswill be decreased obviously In addition it will lead to the exact analysis of the heat transfer between the air andthe water It will also correctly and carefully analyze the pressure drop created by the air passing over the heatexchangers In this research the temperature of the output water of every heat exchanger is computed and presented in allconditions Keywords Dry cooling tower Internal walls heat exchanger model environmental winds
