Performance Assessment of Irrigation Networks using SOBEK Hydrodaynamic Model Case Study Doroodzan Network Meysam Valipoor M valipoor@ag iut ac ir August 13 2014 Department of Water Engineering College of Agriculture Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Manouchehr Heidarpour heidar@cc iut ac ir Abstract Water resources restrictions in Fars province increasing water demand in agriculture drought and about half a century of the network s doroodzan as well as high water loses cause the need for essential in irrigation and drainage network General study of irrigation networks has shown that their performance is below expectation One of the consequences of poor management and operation of irrigation systems is inadequate distribution of water to channels and divisions and consequently improper distribution of water In this study by simulating current condition of network using SOBEK hydrodynamic model appropriate management alternatives in terms of spatial and temporal distribution of water in Dorudzan irrigation and drainage network is investigated Performance was evaluated at tertiary canal level using the adequacy excess dependability and equity indicators These indicators were calculated for the 10 tertiaries for the 3 month irrigation seasons of 2012 and 2013 using measured water deliveries and calculated crop water requirements The model was calibrated for the Manning coefficients of 0 016 To study the state of canal s cross section and validation of the available Data field survey was done prior to starting irrigation season Six different operational options that matches the actual water requirement crop were defined and compared with the current methods of operation Results showed that the ordibehesht canal had a poor performance from the water delivery point of view upstream canal received more water than the downstream By calculating the distribution parameters for different operating alternatives it can be found that the current operational method had poor performance Results also showed that actual water requirement of 15 days alternative could be useful for increasing water delivery performance Also for all operational alternatives opening radial gates were optimized and compared with non optimized mode The analysis of the results showed that in each operation alternative the opening for the slide gates for optimal condition is very different from that of the non optimized mode Key words Doroodzan network Equity and Delivery Adequacy Operation SOBEK Hydrodynamic Model
