Analysis of Image Encryption Algorithms Based on Chaotic Maps Sadegh Abbasi Soorki Sadegh abbasi@ec iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 10 22 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Mohammad Dakhilalian mdalian@cc iut ac ir Abstract Image encryption differs from text encryption due to some intrinsic features of images such as high volume of data strong correlations among pixels and high compression capability Therefore traditional cryptographic methods are not suitable for this purpose In recent years encryption algorithm based on chaos have been suggested new solutions to develop secure image encryption techniques Because this type of encryption due to some property of chaotic systems such as ergodicity random like behavior and sensitivity to initial conditions are useful in cryptography Accordingly we introduce and evaluate the security of chaos based image encryption schemes In this thesis we have divided the chaos based image encryption algorithms into algorithms based on logistic map Arnold cat map algorithms in time and frequency domains and algorithms on the bit level So first properties of chaotic systems and expressing some feature of image that distinguish it from text have been introduced Then according to the classification presented above we introduce studied image encryption algorithms and to evaluate the safety of them the results of the statistical tests and security analysis used in the field of image encryption are given In this thesis we try to analyze the two algorithms one of which in time and frequency domains and other bit level of running it In this thesis some flaws of these algorithm are pointed out and then a chosen plaintext attack against them is presented Finally an appropriate strategy to deal with this type of attack and improve the algorithms is presented Then to show the security level of the modified algorithm results of multiple security analysis and statistical tests are given Keywords Image encryption Chaotic maps Security analysisPDF created with pdfFactory Pro trial version www pdffactory com
