21 Prediction of Thermal Stratification and Eutrophication of Marun Dam Using CE QUAL W2 Sara Ahmadi Ahmadi sarah62@yahoo com November 17 2014 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor Dr Hossein Moradi hossein moradi@cc iut ac ir Supervisor Dr Nourollah Mirghaffari mnorolah@cc iut ac ir Abstract Nowadays high quality water is one of the main concerns around the world Usually quality ofreservoir outflows decreases as the water residence time is increasing Thermal stratificationand eutrophication are the most important events than can affect water quality In the two pastdecades use of mathematical models has been increased to simulate water quality parametersand temperatures changes The purpose of this study is to predict the potential changes inwater quality in the future from common phenomena in the water reservoirs as thermalstratification and eutrophication in Marun Dam for a period of one year march 2013 march2014 In order to simulate the thermal stratification and water quality parameters such as NO3and NO2 PO4 NH3 TDS and DO in marun reservoir model dimensional CE QUAL W2Model was used The inputs data includes reserviour bathymetry meteorological data input output inflow and concentration of water quality parameters Model calibration was based onvertical temperature profile and volume of the reservoir The simulation of thermalstratification showed that it occurred in augst september and october and Marun reservoirstratification is among thermal monomictic Simulation of eutrophication showed that itoccurred only in September and during this month Marun reservoir condition was inMesotrophic step Keywords CE QUAL W2 Model Marun Reservoir Eutrophication Thermad Stratification
