Trophic state of the Zayandeh Roud dam lake in Isfahan Atefeh Malekzadeh Email a malekzadeh@na iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 9 22 Department of Natural Resources Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 8311Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor E Ebrahimi e ebrahimi@cc iut ac irAbstract Lakes and reservoirs are considered by human communities as an important supply of potableand agricultural water therefore some sort of water quality monitoring required in order touse the water resources effectively Pollution is one of the reason for algae bloom andeutrophication in the aquatic ecosystem which finally leads to the lower water quality andbiological diversity Zayandeh Roud dam lake is located in central region of Iran and is themain source of fresh water for its numerous inhabitants in the region The aim of the presentstudy is to investigate the state of trophy and trend of changes in Zayandeh Roud dam lake in2013 Sampling was carried out at 45 days intervals from April 2013 to March 2014 at fivesampling stations To determine the state of trophy in the lake physicochemical parameterssuch as temperature dissolved oxygen Secchi disk depth of appearance pH totalphosphorus total Nitrogen COD BOD EC TDS TSS and levels chlorophyll a weremeasured at each sampling period To determined the trophic state in the lake OECDclassification and TSI index were used According to the result significant differences werefound in the qualitative measured criteria s among different stations p 0 05 andphosphorus was found to be a limiting factor in the lake ecosystem In general the state oftrophy in Zayandeh Roud dam Lake according to OECD and TSI index and based onparameters such as secchi disk depth of appearance and total phosphorus and chlorophyll acontent was considered mesotrophic and oligotrophic respectively Key words Zayandeh Roud dam Eutrophication TSI indicator Mesotrophic OligotrophicTrophic state
