61 Surface modification of SiO2 nanoparticle with biodegradable biocompatible citric acid and poly vinyl alcohol and their applications for the fabrication and characterization of novel bio active poly amide imide based nanocomposite Marziyeh Shahrokhpour m shahrokhpur@yahoo com Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisor Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Abstract In this work in order to prevent agglomeration of SiO2 NPs in the poly amide imide PAI matrix the surface of SiO2 NPs was modified with bio active citric acid CA to obtain SiO2 CA Then the PAI was synthesized from the polymerization reaction of biosafe and optically active diacid with 4 4 diamino diphenylether using molten tetra n butylammonium bromide as green solvent and triphenyl phosphite Then the SiO2 CA NPs were incorporated into the obtained optically active PAI and PAI SiO2 CA nanocomposites PSCN s were prepared via a fast ultrasonic irradiation process Finally the SiO2 CA and PSCNs were characterized by different methods such as FT IR XRD FE SEM TEM and TGA techniques According to FE SEM and TEM micrographs the distribution of SiO2 NPs in the polymer matrix was homogeneous In the second project the SiO2 NPs were modified with poly vinyl alcohol PVA Then the modified SiO2 NPs with PVA SiO2 PVA were incorporated into the PAI matrix for the preparation of PAI SiO2 PVA NCs PSiPN s Finally the resulting SiO2 PVA and PSiPNs were characterized by different analyses TGA data showed high thermal stability of the obtained PSiPNs compared to the pure PAI TEM images of SiO2 PVA demonstrated most of the SiO2 PVA particles are spherical in shape with very good dispersion Keyword Silica nanoparticles Surface modi cation Poly amide imide Nanocomposite Ultrasonic irradiation
