75 The use of citric acid and poly vinyl alcohol as environmental friendlycoupling agents for surface modification of copper II oxide nanoparticles and their applications for preparation of the new poly amide imide nanocomposites containing L valine amino acid linkages Elham Azadi elhamazadi1366@yahoo com Department of Chemistry Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 I R IranDegree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisors Prof Shadpour Mallakpour E mail mallak@cc iut ac ir mallak777@yahoo com mallakpour84@alumni ufl edu Dr Mohammad Dinari E mail dinari@cc iut ac irAbstract In this study at first citric acid CA was used as a capping agent to control the size dispersion and morphology of the copper oxide nanoparticles CuO NPs to obtain CuO CANPs The prepared CA modified CuO NPs were studied with FT IR XRD TEM FE SEMand TGA techniques Thermal analysis and FT IR confirmed grafting of CA on the surface ofCuO NPs Morphology observations represented good dispersion of the modified CuO NPswith CA in the poly amide imide PAI matrix Then the PAI was synthesized throughpolycondensation reaction of N trimellitylimido L valine and 4 4 methylenebis 3 chloro 2 6 diethylaniline in the presence of the molten tetra n butylammonium bromide and triphenylphosphite in green media The PAI CuO CA nanocomposites NCs containing differentamounts of CuO CA NPs in the PAI matrix were synthesized using the ultrasonic assistedtechnique The properties of the synthesized NCs were studied by FT IR XRD FE SEM TEM and TGA techniques In other investigation poly vinyl alcohol PVA as a greenmodifier was grafted on the surface of the CuO NPs to obtain CuO PVA nanohybrid Finally the CuO PVA NPs were incorporated into the PAI matrix using ultrasonic irradiations for theperoration of PAI CuO PVA NCs The TGA results showed that the thermal stability of theNCs was enhanced by incorporation of the CuO PVA NPs compared to the neat PAI Keyword Copper II oxide nanoparticles Surface modi cation of nanoparticles citric acid poly vinylalcohol Poly amide imide Nanocomposite Ultrasonic irradiation
