Degree Correlation in Scale Free and Small World Networks Vahid Monfaredi v monfaredi@ph iut ac ir 1 18 2015 Department of Physics Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 IranDegree M Sc Language PersianSupervisor Dr K A Samani samani@cc iut ac irAbstract Today using complex networks for describing natural phenomena is rapidly increas ing One of the tools for studying such networks is modeling them A variety of di erentmodels have been introduced for describing complex systems such as Random networks Scale Free networks and Small World networks Each model possesses its special charac teristics among them are the length of shortest path clustering coe cient betweenness communities One of the important characteristic in networks is the correlation betweentheir vertices degree is property determines whether the degree of any of vertex de pends on other vertices or not e di erence in structure of di erent models and theircharacteristics stems from how each of these networks forms By changing some of for mation parameters one can create networks with particular structure and characteristics In this thesis the e ect of each Scale Free and Small World network parameters that playa role in forming these networks or in correlation between these networks will be studied For this purpose we use the Barab si Albert model for producing Scale Free networks andWa s Strogatz model for describing Small World networks Also we use Pearson coe cient for calculating network correlation We will show that as the size of the networkparameters in Scale Free network and Small World networks and the number of links at tached to the new node in Scale Free networks and the number of nearest neighbors inSmall World networks increases the correlation and the interval of its changes decreases At the end e ective structural factors in correlation changes will be studies We will showthat the increase of correlation stems from increase in the number of intermodular connec tivity and the decrease of the number of relatively branched and vice versa Keywords Complex Networks Degree Degree Correlation Scale Free Network SmallWorld Network
