Performance analysis of FS structure of SMT filterbank multicarrier communication system Parna Sabeti p sabeti@ec iut ac ir Submitted in December 20 2014 Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Mohammad Javad Omidi omidi@cc iut ac irAdvisor Hamid Saeedi saeedi@yazd ac ir AbstractMulticarrier modulation techniques are particularly appropriate for realization of broadband communicationsystems Nowadays Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing OFDM as the most famous example has been adapted in various communication standards i e ADSL IEEE802 11a 802 16 and LTE How ever because of some shortcomings of OFDM Filter Bank Multicarrier FBMC has been suggested as analternative technique Several systems of FBMC have been introduced The most spectrally efficient oneis staggered modulated multitone SMT which is also known as FBMC OQAM or OFDM OQAM Thereare two structures to implement SMT polyphase structure and frequency spreading FS In this thesis afteran introduction to FBMC systems and specially SMT both structures of SMT are presented Since impactof Carrier Frequency Offset CFO and Timing Offset TO are important issues in multicarrier modulationsystems sensitivity of two structures of SMT to these offsets is evaluated and compared by the Signal to Inter ference Ratio SIR Then robustness of the two structures against these two offsets in presence of AWGN andmultipath channel is clarified Finally an alternative method is proposed to compensate CFO for FS struc ture of SMT Multiple Access SMTMA in the uplink of multiple access scenario The proposed methodreduces the computational complexity and the latency of receiver without losing the performance Moreover a possibility for combining the compensation of TO and channel effects with CFO correction is presented Simulation results show that the proposed method offers a reasonable performance and improvement Keywords FBMC OFDM SMT FS structure CFO TO
