58 Impacts of Weather Parameters and Air Pollutants on the Surface Ozone and UV Radiation in Isfahan Mohammad Hosseinabady m hosseinabady@na iut ac ir Date of Submission 2014 12 27 Department of Natural Resources Engineering Isfahan University of Technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language FarsiSupervisor Nourollah Mirghaffari mnorolah@cc iut ac irSupervisor Victoria Ezzatian Victoria ezzatian@yahoo comAbstract Air pollution is one of the most important global environmental issues especially in the large cities thatis considered as a permanent and serious threat to the public health and the environment Different statisticalmethods have been used to investigate the relationship between the air pollution and weather conditions Inthis study the multiple linear regression analysis was used for investigation the impact of weather parametersand the air pollutants concentrations on the surface ozone and solar ultraviolet radiation in Isfahan The dataof a three years period of air pollutants 2009 2011 from air monitoring station of Ahmadabad square inIsfahan as well as the climatic data of Shahid Beheshti airport synoptic station in Isfahan were dailyinvestigated In order to study more precisely the impact of the independent variables weather parametersand air pollutants on the dependent variables surface ozone and UV radiation the used analysis wasperformed monthly and seasonal In the monthly analysis the impact of air pollutants and the weatherparameters on the surface ozone the parameters such as carbon monoxide nitrogen oxides monoxide andnitrogen dioxide sunshine total solar radiation and diffuse solar radiation had significant positive impactand the parameters such as sulfur dioxide evaporation sea level pressure and ultraviolet radiation had asignificant negative effect In the seasonal analysis the parameters such as carbon monoxide and nitrogenoxides monoxide and nitrogen dioxide had a significant positive impact while sulfur dioxide andevaporation had significant negative impact on the ozone values Regarding the monthly ultraviolet radiation the sunshine diffuse solar radiation and evaporation had significant the positive impact and rain AerosolOptical Depth AOD and PM10 had a significant negative impact Also in the seasonal analysis theminimum daily temperature sunshine evaporation total solar radiation and diffuse solar radiation hadsignificant positive impact and sea level pressure and minimum relative humidity have had significantnegative impact on the ultraviolet radiation Keywords Air pollution Surface ozone UV Radiation Multiple linear regression Weatherparameters Isfahan
