Experimental Study of Graphene Synthesis by Graphite Oxide Based Chemical Methods and Comparison of Properties as an Additive for Composite Nanofibrous Membrane Saeed mohamadi Saeed moahamadi@ce iut ac ir Department of chemical engineering Isfahan University of technology Isfahan 84156 83111 Iran Degree M Sc Language Farsi Supervisors Dr Seyyed Mohammad Ghoreshi and Dr M J Karimi sabet Abstract Due to extraordinary properties of graphene it becomes one of the most promising materials in many applications Graphene and it s derivatives like graphene oxide functionalized graphene oxide graphene have been used in electronic devices drug delivery membrane and separation processes additives and composites Despite several graphene producing methods because of good quality mass production and versatility of graphite oxide based chemical method the method has been taken notice The method is a way containing several steps The steps include graphite preoxidation main oxidation Exfoliation reduction and functionalization In this study each step was investigated with several preparation methods to select the best one based on aim of each step Selected methods of each step accompanied with reforms and changes were got together and made appropriative way for producing graphene and functionalized one Graphite preoxidation with selected method increased interlayer distance of graphene layers 0 17 Main oxidation with double modified hummers and modified tour methods increase interlayer distance 1 65 and 3 65 more than conventional hummers and tour methds respectively without poisonous gases production like N2O and N2O4 Step by step exfoliation and reduction functionalization of graphite oxide is one of the most common graphene producing method Time consumption and high temperature condition is one of the challenging problems In this study in addition to conventional one room temperature and short time simultaneous exfoliation and reduction functionalization of graphite oxide carried out under ultrasonication Both of them work successfully Graphene was functionalized with octadecyl amine by the way and used as additives in four weight percent of polymer 0 0 2 0 4 0 8 to make superhydrophobic electrospun poly
