Abstract :
A finite strip method of analysis is developed which uses trigonometric function to satisfy the boundary conditions in the longitudinal direction. The transverse displacements in the semi-analytical formulation are augmented with a quartic bubble function. The bubble functions are extra modes associated with internal or nodeless degrees of freedom. The method is demonstrated by investigating the local buckling behaviour of plates with different boundary conditions along all adges under both uniaxial and biaxial compression.
