Abstract :
Two finite strip methods of the buckling analysis of thin, flat-walled assembiles are reviewed. These methods are based on complex arithmetic, and can handel shear and admit local distortional and lateral modes. The methods are compared critically with each other ,and with the formulation of pizemieniecki. The complex semi-analytical elastic finite strip metod is modified and programmed, and its accuracy is estabilshed. This method is used to study local, pure shear. The method is then applied to study the elastic local buckling interaction of bending and shear, and compression and shear , in 1-section members.
