Abstract :
Yarn interaction at the warp and weft crossing points of a tensioned fabric is an important aspect of fabrices mechanical property. This paper discusses a new approach to measuring changes in yarn interaction at the crossing points due to fabric strueture and yarn irregularity by analyzing yarn pullout behavior from a plain woven cotton fabrie.Autospectral density function was used to demonstrate that the nature of stick-slip motion of dynamic frictional force of pulled out yarn is periodie, and depends on fabric construction (warp and weft space). Also we used the yarn pullout test (on the warp yarns only)to investigate the effect of weft yarn irregularity on the pullout yarn characteristics. There is high correlation between warp pullout force (static and dynamic),the intensity of yarn interaction at crossing points, the strength of fabric in the warp direction, and weft yarn irregularity. This new method is important for quantitative study of the intensity generating mechanism of yarn interactions within the fabric.
