Abstract :
For sample of 457 wild oat accesions (Avena strerilis L.)from the world collection maintained at the Germplasm laboratory,Beltsville,Maryland,USA, was studied for variation of six physiological and morphological traits via means, ranges, components of variance, and frequencies from various geographic areas.Specific adaptations were responsible for the occurrence of certain trait(s) in specific geographic regions,e.g., Ethiopian accessions have high vernalization scores. The amount of genetic variability within A. sterilis varies widely, presumably due to the complex interrelationships between genetic and ecological factors.
