Wool fibre damage

Page :
P.7-16
Abstract :
The interaction between wool fibres and opening elements (i.e card wire or a pin) is very complicated and often causes a considerable amount of fibre damage.Different approaches have been applied to investigate the mechanisms of fiber damage in opening processes,in order to reduce the detrimental effect of the opening elements. Although all of theses works have provided better insight into some mechanisms of fibre damage, the behaviour of fibres prior to catastrophic failure and many fundamentals of fibre failure are still not well understood. This work reports a new concept of damage termed as microdamage, which covers the morphological and structural changes of the contacted fiber prior to its failure. The scope of microdamage studies is reviewed and some of the results are reported.
