Abstract :
This Bulletin discusses the world food situation, and the probable effect of trade liberalization under WTO on future food security. It compares of 1972-74 with the present situation of low global food stocks, and is cautiously optimistic about the current and future food outlook. It suggests that with more participants in the global trade in staple foods, a higher level of stability in prices and supplies will be achieved. While the long-term outlook for increased food production is quite favorable, this will depend on increased investment into research and rural infrastructure.
