Abstract :
False-twist-textured yarns are twist-lively,as are inadequately set or inadequately stress-relaxed twisted staple-fibre or continuous-filament yarns. Because twist liveliness gives a snarling tendency in yarns and leads to spirality in plian-knitted fabrics,it is usually regarded as a negative property. Measurement of twist liveliness or residual torque in a yarn has been considered for a long time, but it has been customary to assess twist liveliness by indirect methods. Some methods for the direct measurement of yarn-torque level have been describedin the literature, but no quantitative data on yarn-torque levals are available. Inthis paper ,a direct and objective method for the measurement of yarn totque, using yarns wound into a hank,is described. Torque levels in some false-twist-textured nylon hosiery yarns are measured under different tensile stresses.
