Abstract :
Rainwater havesting through the use of rainwater catchment systems in agricultural areas may impact and reduce the water resources quality, especially groundwater. With recognition of the sources of pollution, the quality of the water can be protected. The purpose of this study is to design a thought-provoking checklist to help individuals analyze their own water supplies, and the water agencies to plan and manage the water poullution control. The designed checklist consists of several short questions along with explanation for some of them. It has four major sections including:(1)basic information about the area,(2) farmʹs potential,(3)off-site potential, and (4) agricultural chemical potentialto pollute the water resourcs. In the first section, questions about the drinking water supply, sampling testing, climate, and soils are designed. These question give insight to the questionnaire to perceive other important parameters for optimization and localization of the areaʹs project. In the second section, all farmʹs potential in the third section are designed to assess the impact of off-site rainwater havesting on the areaʹs water quality. The questions in the froth section are useful to evaluate the agricultural chemical potential in polluting water resources. Based on the result of this study a checklist is designed. The checklist proviedes information about potential sources of water resources pollution in farming areas in which the practice of rainwater harvesting is applied. This information can be usful for both individuals and water agencies to control the impact of rainwater harvesting on the quality of areaʹs water resources.
